The comments from the 2007 Key Leader Program were:

Key Leader was:

"Awesome!"
"This Rocks"
"I didn't think I could do the ropes challenges, but I'm glad I tried. I did it!"
"I'm coming back next year"
"I got homesick, but I'm glad I stayed, anyway. It's the best thing I've ever done."
"I'm bringing my friends next time"
"I Had A Blast!"

These are just a few of the comments written on the students' evaluations of our KT District Key Leader event this past April, 2007. 56 students "graduate" from our first district-sponsored Key Leader Workshop.

Leslie Grossman Frederick, the director of the 2007 program wrote, "You would be so proud of these students, aged 13-17, who participated in our youth leadership event. Plans are already being made for next year hold onto your hat; we are doing two events in 2008."

Rain didn't hamper their fun or experience the students told us they had a great time.

The low ropes course "kicked-it-up-a-notch". The ratios were terrific for the guys 2/1 girls to boys. Students from all over the KT District attended, and when the event was concluding, they were heard saying, "I'm coming back next year & bringing my friends with me!" Our K-T District will do two events in 2008 - one in the spring and one in the fall.

The student participant received a DVD with more than 240 photos and a PowerPoint presentation, with music, of their weekend event.

In a nutshell, is a leadership training program for high school students (and graduating 8th graders for spring events). It is totally separate from Key Club and reaches beyond Key Club; it is open to any high school student anywhere in the world. Kentucky and Tennessee (as well as students from other states) High school students are welcome. Home-schooled students are also encouraged to attend.

This year the program will be held in 49 locations, throughout North America and Canada. 2006 also had Key Leader events in Brazil and Malaysia. The focal points of Key Leader are Service Leadership through Integrity, Excellence, Growth, Respect and Community.

October 3, 4, 5, 2008. Our fall 2008 Key Leader event will be held at Aldersgate Camp, Ravenna, KY near Richmond, KY. High school students (only) from Tennessee and Kentucky are welcome, as well as students from other states. Home-schooled students are also encouraged to attend.

Frederick said, "Many thanks to Al Porell, our KT Governor, whose determination and commitment to bring an event to our district made sure it was a success." "2007 Site Coordinator, and we appreciate all the work he did to make things run smoothly,: she added. "We want to thank Bob Hillhouse (Northside Kiwanis, Knoxville, TN) was the event photographer as well as the Kiwanis chaperones Lorie Hayes (KY), Jack Lee (KY), Kathy Newell (KY), Jessica Page (TN) and Barbara Shelton (TN). Dick Peterson, Executive Director of Key Leader, internationally, was our KL liaison, and was a terrific support during the event. Our KT District also thanks Erin Fischer and Lori Martin, in the Key Leader offices in Indianapolis. Without their help during the planning process we would not have had such a successful event," she concluded.
