Kentucky-Tennessee District of Kiwanis International
90th Annual District Convention - August 8-10, 2008

MeadowView Marriott, Kingsport, Tennessee

K-T Governor David O's
July 2008 Message

K-T Family:

Our District Convention is in Kingsport on August 8-10. The Host Division has wonderful events planned for our education and entertainment. The many events will take place at out host hotel, Meadowview Marriott and throughout the Kingsport, Bristol and Johnson City area. We need many of our K-T Kiwanians to attend and support our Convention.

We are moving toward meeting our goals for this year. We have new Kiwanis Clubs, Circle K Clubs, Key Clubs, Builders Clubs and K-Kids Clubs throughout the District. We need to support the new clubs and keep our others strong in performing service. We need to continue to grow by building additional new clubs and adding new members to our existing clubs. I will give my final report at the Convention.

Clubs are reporting (100%) online. This is a major accomplishment! Congratulations to all the Divisions and Clubs that have established websites this year. Our District has moved into the 21st century!

We need to continue to work on the First Lady's Reading for Diversity project. Several clubs received their patch at Mid-Year for participation in the project. Please advise your Lt. Governor or Betty of your activities so you can receive your banner patch at the District Convention.

While we still have three months remaining in the 07-08 Kiwanis year, I want to express special thanks for the outstanding work done by the Lt. Governors, Whips, and Committee Chairs. They have provided much needed service to the K-T Family. I also want to express a tremendous thank you to Fred Troutman. He has provided a 'labor of love' in publishing the KT Notes for many years.

We still have work to be done to finish strong and prepare for next year. Betty and I sincerely appreciate the enthusiastic support we have received from the K-T Kiwanis family as we have made the journey this year.

Each of you has proven that

Together
Everyone
Accomplishes
More

and all we have to do is

Actively
Seek
Kiwanians.

Attention: KY-TN Convention Attendees

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The 14 Kiwanis Clubs in Northeast Tennessee will host the Kentucky-Tennessee District Convention at MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport from Friday morning, August 8th through Sunday morning, August 10th, 2008.

As many as 300 to 700 attendees are anticipated. The 14 clubs of Division 7 are made up of those from Greeneville, TN, Jonesborough, Erwin, Johnson City, Gray, Kingsport, Elizabethton, Mountain City, Bristol, Rogersville, East Hawkins County, and Big Stone Gap, VA. The number of active Kiwanians included in this Division is approximately 700. These clubs will all be participating as hosts for the Convention.

Kiwanis International service motto states that we are "a group of dedicated volunteers changing the world one child and one community at a time." Though our convention will have workshops and seminars furthering this goal, it will also include time for recreation.

A golf tournament is planned and as many as 100 - 120 golfers are expected at Cattails Golf Course at MeadowView on Friday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with appropriate prizes involved.

Trips to Bristol Motor Speedway, Gray Fossil Site, Kingsport antique district, Bays Mountain, and other interesting sites in the area are also planned.

.

At Gray Fossil Site, we will view hundreds of specimens of fossils from the Miocene Era 4-7 million years ago in a state of the art exhibition hall. Archaeologists are digging and will do so for more than 100 years on this site.

At the Speedway, we will be viewing time trials for a late model ASA auto race to be held later that evening. We will be the only "civilians" at the track. We will also have opportunity to visit Bruton Smith's skybox suite and the BMS souvenir shops
