Kiwanis Clubs Provided Detailed Presentations on their Projects

Various clubs and districts provided a display of their projects. Here President Juan F. Torres Jr, visits with those involved in a Bulgarian Orphanage Project.

The Bulgarian exhibit shows how support of orphanages has expanded over the years.

Esther Sims, the president of the Kiwanis Club of Tullahoma, TN explained their tutoring program at the Hicherson Elementary School. They reported that Dr. Jim Shemwell, Principal of the school, was very excited and grateful to have the club provide tutoring services for the students at his school. One teacher said, "The boys in my class have certainly improved in reaching this year. The match scores have improved also." One parent said, "I can tell such a difference in my son. He has so much less trouble with math. I am so glad I enrolled him in this program.

The Kiwanis Club of Onida, TN sponsors a baby care project and provided explanations of how other clubs could host a similar project. This is a joint project between the club and ohter community agencies.

The Rochester (MN) Day Makers Kiwanis Club renovate discarded and unused bikes for distribution to disadvantaged youth. This project has been in existence since 1982. A national Terrific Kids program was embraced by the Kiwanis Club of Salt Lake City. They hosted a luncheon for their Terrific Kids at the end of the current school year.

Pediatric Trauma Treatment is another Kiwanis Club project

The Kiwanis Club of Wheelersburg, OH recognizes heros, emergency personnel, within their community.

The Kiwanis Sunshine Camp is operated to bring siblings who are in foster care or have been adopted together in a summer camp setting in Butte, Montana

Since 1929, the Joseph Pfeifer Kiwanis Camp provides camping experiences for kids. They have a long history of helping disadvantaged and at-risk children. This residential summer camping program serves approximately 300 campers each summer. For more information email jpkcamp@aol.com

Another Kiwanis camp publicized at the convention was KAMP Rainbow in Diamondhead, Mississippi. This camp is for children with arthritis and their parents.

The Alabama newsletter tells about the effort of that state to provide playgrounds within reach of all children in the state.
