KT Division 1E - May, 2004 Newsletter

CLUB PROJECTS ­ Following are some of the club projects that were reported in the April club reports:

Franklin County ­ held in school banking at Clark Memorial School; held High on the Hog activities.

Highland Rim ­ donated $100 to First Christian Food Bank; held Easter Egg hunt for Tullahoma Head Start; adopted a road in Tullahoma and picked up trash for Keep Coffee County Beautiful.

Manchester ­ collected alum cans for Habitat; donated $40 to Good Samaritan; worked at Good Samaritan; tutored at Hickerson Elementary; donated $300 to CHS BPOA club; donated $300 to CHS Project Graduation; collected for IDD; held Easter Egg hunt for Noah Head Start.

Murfreesboro ­ distributed magazines to VA Hospital; funded "Baxter Hopgood" scholarship ($500) to MTSU; donated $216 to Kiwanis International as part of Skip-a-Meal.

Stones River/Oaklands ­ played bingo at VA; donated $200 for high school BPOA trip to NYC; donated $50 to Holloway Harbor.

Tullahoma ­ tutored at Hickerson Elementary; donated $25 to Christian Children's Fund; donated $45 to Tullahoma Fire Dept; donated $20 to St. Jude Children's Hospital; donated $100 to Project Graduation; donated $200 to Hickerson Elementary for lunches for seniors reading program; volunteered for area Special Olympics.

Warren County ­ collected household items for Ronald McDonald House; traveled with Key Club to Ronald McDonald House.

White County ­ no report a/o May 16. I will update when one comes in.

Division Council Meeting ­ The Division Council Meeting was held Thursday, April 15, at 6:00 p.m. with the Manchester Club. The Council formally elected Lt. Gov. Elect Bob Brinkmann as our Lt. Gov. for 2004-2005. However it did not elect a new Division 1E Lt. Gov. Elect for 2004-2005 (Lt. Gov. for 2005-2006). Your next chance to elect a Lt. Gov Elect for 2004-2005 will be at the governor's visit in the fall.

Warren County Club News ­Though the Warren County Club is having some difficulties, it is still actively working in their community. In a recent poll by the McMinnville newspaper, The Southern Standard, the Warren County Kiwanis Club was voted the outstanding service club in the county. Our congratulations go out to the club and we wholeheartedly support your rebuilding efforts.

Club Elections ­ Most of you should have had your club elections for next year's officers by now. Be sure to report that information to District and International by June 1.

Distinguished Clubs ­ The year is roughly two thirds of the way done. How does your club stand in making a goal of being distinguished for the year? It 's not too late. Be sure that your attendance goals are being met, that your service projects are being done and that your training and reports are being done on time. Make it happen.

CLE Training ­ The Club Leadership Training for new club presidents and secretaries will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Manchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church beginning at 8:30 a.m. The training will conclude by 3:30 p.m. The cost is $5.00 a person and will cover refreshments and lunch. Mark your calendars now for this very important training. Each club president and secretary is required to take this training.

89TH Annual Kiwanis International Convention ­ It's not too late to make your plans to attend the 89th Kiwanis International Convention in St. Louis on June 26-29, 2004. St. Louis is close enough to drive. Next year the convention will be in Hawaii. So be thinking about taking that dream vacation then.
