District Convention The K-T District Convention was held on August 13-15 in Clarksville. This was truly the best K-T convention in quite awhile. The host Division 14 clubs went out of their way to make the convention a memorable one for all attendees. I even enjoyed a limo ride to and from Saturday night's Governor's Banquet.
I am pleased to announce that our division received numerous awards and was well represented. We had attendees from Highland Rim, Tullahoma, Murfreesboro and Manchester. President Lynn Cooper was busy picking up awards for his club. Tullahoma is to be congratulated for being a Distinguished Club for 2002-2003, Administrative Excellence for 2003-2004, winning 3rd place in the Orange Div for Interclubbing, winning a Governor's Excellence award for Interclubbing, taking 2nd place in Orange for Bulletins, 2nd place in Orange for Club Brochure, and 2nd place overall for Scrapbook.
Other Distinguished Clubs for 2002-2003 are Franklin County, Highland Rim, Manchester and Murfreesboro. There were only 23 Distinguished Clubs in the K-T District for 2002-2003 and we had 5. Other clubs with Administrative Excellence for 2003-2004 are Highland Rim, Manchester, Murfreesboro and Stones River Oaklands. SRO also received a Key Club award for Key Club Sponsorship. Your Lt. Gov. was one of only 4 of 19 Lt. Govs. to receive a Distinguished Lt. Gov. award for 2002-2003.
I also participated in a workshop by presenting Laws of Life Essay contests as a Youth Services project. One hundred sixty seven delegates from 86 clubs attended the convention. Three hundred seventy two total registrants attended. Next year's convention will be in Louisville, KY at the Executive Inn next to Kentucky Kingdom theme park from September 9-11.
Interclub Update Kiwanis International has revised the requirements for Interclubbing to become effective October 1, 2004. Beginning on Oct 1, clubs with membership of 20 and under will require only 2 members to make an eligible interclub. Clubs with membership from 21-30 will require only 3. Clubs with membership 31 and over will still require 4. We hope that this encourages smaller clubs to do more interclubbing. Sorry, this is not retroactive.
