


Rules governing the 2008-2009 K-T District Web Site Contest:
1. The purpose of this contest seeks to encourage all Kiwanis Clubs to develop and maintain an internet web site each administrative year to promote Kiwanis and club/division activities.
2. All web sites listed on the K-T Kiwanis web site "Kiwanis
Clubs" page will be evaluated in this competition. The K-T
Kiwanis Clubs page (URL) is located at: http://www.KTKiwanis.info/KTKiwanisClubs.html.
A committee of three appointed individuals knowledgeable about
web sites but not club or division webmasters in the K-T District
will be appointed by the K-T District Governor to evaluate all
web sites on the "Kiwanis Clubs" page during the month
preceding the annual K-T District Convention. Clubs or divisions
who develop new web pages or change their URL location address
should contact the K-T District web manager with their new URL
location. This may be sent to Kleine@chpl.net
3. Required Content (those not having this information will
be eliminated from the competition)
A. Name of the Kiwanis club or division
B. When and where the club meets and the frequency of the meeting
C. A means of contacting at least one member of the club or division
by email
D. A means of contacting the individual or company that maintains
the web site by email
(C and D can be the same if that person is a member of the local
Kiwanis club or division).
E. A link to the Kiwanis International web page and a link to
the K-T Kiwanis web page. This can be done either on the home
page or on a links page. Following are the (URLs) locations for

4. Judging of club web sites will be on the point system as
follows: Maximum Points
A. List of officers and directors. 15
B. List of upcoming events - at least for the next month

C. Pictures and narratives of Kiwanis club activities and service
projects 20
D. Pictures and narratives of Kiwanis club fundraisers 10
E. Pictures and narratives of Kiwanis club involvement with K-Kids,
Builders, Key and
Circle K Clubs 10
F. Convention attendance and activity (District and International)

G. Recognition of the outstanding work of club members 10
Visual attractiveness and ease of use of web site: This includes
a means of navigating from one page to the next - and a means
of returning to the club or division home page on every page in
the club or division web site. 10
5. Judging of division web sites will be on the point system as
follows: Maximum Points
A. List of clubs in division, where and when they meet and a means
of contacting them. 30
B. List of division officers and a means of contacting them.

D. Coverage of division activities and projects 10
E. Pictures and narratives of division involvement with K-Kids,
Builders, Key and Circle K

F. Recognition of the outstanding work of division leaders

G. Visual attractiveness and ease of use of web site: This includes
a means of navigating from one page to the next - and a means
of returning to the club or division home page on every page in
the club or division web site. 10
6. Awards to be given at the 2009 K-T District Kiwanis Convention

¬ 2008-09 Best Overall Club Web Site in the Kentucky-Tennessee
District - highest total points in district.
¬ 2008-09 Best Overall Division Web Site in the Kentucky-Tennessee
District - highest total points in district.
¬ 2008-089Distinguished Club or Division Web Site - all clubs
scoring 70 points or more in the competition.
A special logo will be designed and will be provided for the 2008-09 Best Overall Club Web Site and the 2008-09 Best Overall Division Web Site. This will be provided for the club to post on their web site as a means of recognition for their outstanding web site. This award, much like a banner patch, may continue to be displayed on the club web site on a continuing basis. A certificate of achievement will also be presented at the District Convention.
A special logo will be designed and will be provided for the 2008-09 Distinguished Club or Division Web Site. This will be provided for the club or division to post on their web site as a means of recognition for their distinguished web site. This award, much like a banner patch, may continue to be displayed on the club web site on a continuing basis. A certificate of achievement will also be presented at the District Convention.



What to do if you want to win an award:
It looks good!
It is easy to navigate
If it is a Club or organizational site, it identifies where the
Club, unit, organization or individual is ... including city and
country
If it is an individual's site, it has a clearly stated purpose
and contains material that addresses that purpose
It complies with it's host organization's copyright and trademark
policies, if applicable
It highlights the organization's purpose and mission, and the
benefits of membership
If applicable, it provides visitors with details about all of
the Clubs or Chapters - where and when they meet, contact info,
etc. - plus links to their sites (if they have sites!) e.g. -
a Club's site might not include info about other Clubs, and that's
OK!
It identifies the unit's or organization's specific goals for
the current program year, and shows current progress toward achieving
those goals
It includes important and valuable information for members AND
for potential members
It has some unique feature!
It provides at least 2 options for contacting someone for more
information
It celebrates individual and group successes & accomplishments
It has a "last updated" date that is less than 30 days
ago!
What to do if you do not want to win an award:
Have photos and graphics that are broken. (Space reserved for
a graphic indicated by a broken symbol)
Use Java or Javascript that causes browser crashing/freezing
Use sound files that can't be turned off
Have really ugly color schemes - especially dark backgrounds so
you can't read the type
Using a poor Frontpage theme with ugly colour schemes
Have broken links and missing pages
Frequently change page designs moving out of theme on subpages
Have no real content
Include spelling/grammar errors
Have sloooow loading pages
Don't pay attention to page layout
Have out of date content (old officers list - old calendar of
events)
Include poor quality images grainy, fuzzy
Have pages that scroll, and scroll, and scroll - for no good reason.
Use flashing gifs
Use text that is too large, all in capitals, and with too many
colours
Have busy backgrounds
Include poorly formatted tables
Have downloading pdf files without warning on filesize or download
time
